General Announcement
The Garden City Basketball program has enjoyed tremendous support and has provided instruction to 400-600 children each season. Garden City Basketball is a proud member of the JrNBA/JrWNBA, iHoops, and the AAU, respected national youth sports organizations, and our program follows their rules, policies, and procedures. Our program uses the same reversible dazzle cloth jersey for all teams so that we may move players even during a game to ensure everyone has a fun time. Our goal is simply to have a great program that is our version of fun for children. Our participants are provided equal playing time with no tension and no pressure. We are already looking forward to the 2010-2011 season!
Weeknight Clinic Info
This season we made available almost 20 hours of instruction to our Boys and Girls in the 3rd through 6th Grade. The focus on fundamentals of instruction at Garden City Basketball is second to none. A big that you to the coaches from Chaminade (Greg Deverna et al) and former players from Christ the King that have helped to run these events! For the Summer don't forget to check out www.islandgarden.com (the Bruns camp is a good one)(link at left), www.longislandbasketball.com (link also on the left) for summer leagues and instruction.
NBA FIT
Congratulations to Brandon Pizzingrillo for his 2nd place finish (boys 8 and under) in the NYC Regional NBA FIT competition. Kyle Skramko won the NYC Regional (boys 13-14) and we are proud to say is one of two boys that qualified for the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP held in Dallas February 12th-15th during the NBA ALL STAR Weekend! NBA Fit is sponsored by SINGULAIR. The NBA FIT/ WNBA FIT Challenge is free for boys and girls ages 14 and under, and encourages participants to maintain healthy, active lifestyles. The competition offers more than 100,000 youngsters the chance to demonstrate their physical fitness through a time-based fitness course that includes line sprints, jump rope, speed revolutions, wall passes, and defensive shuffles. The challenge tests participants’ speed, strength, agility, and overall physical fitness. Local competitions took place nationwide from September through November and regional competitions ran through January 2010 in all NBA Markets and (5) D-League markets.

Welcome to Garden City Basketball !

We believe that Garden City Basketball has the vision, volunteers and dedicated coaches, and sets the highest standard for youth basketball in the village of Garden City .

Make sure you choose the right program…Garden City Basketball…

The focus of Garden City Basketball is our intramural program.  Our greater mission is to provide a wonderful experience for all of our participants so that a love of the life long game of basketball will be nurtured and grow.

Garden City Basketball is an organization solely focused on basketball.  We have raised the bar and have injected activity, effort, and excitement for the sport of youth basketball in the village.

Garden City Basketball has one of the largest programs in the village.  However, our goal is NOT to be the largest.  Our goal is simply to have a great program that is our version of fun for children.

The Garden City Basketball intramural program is held in the St. Paul 's Field House.  We offer:

ü      Clinics for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade Boys & Girls

ü      Boys skills instruction-practices-games for the 3rd through the 6th grade

ü      Girls skills instruction-practices-games for the 3rd through the 7th grade

ü      Boys intramural “Friday Night Lights” for the 7th through the 12th grade

ü      and a variety of special events

Our intramural program runs from early December through early March.

“Friday Night Lights - Streetball” is our Boys 7th thru 12th Grade program that is held at Stewart School on Friday Nights.  This is the longest running program of its kind in our Village.  All of our other programs have their games on Saturday.

Skill development is important and Garden City Basketball has some of the best clinics that you can find.  Our Saturday clinic for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grader’s is highly regarded by professionals and we are proud to announce is a model for other programs around the country.  For the 3rd grade and higher, we provide a program that combines skills & drills instruction, practices, and games that are run by our dedicated volunteer coaches and are supplemented with paid expert instructors.  Last season, we held at least 6 clinics for each of our 3rd grade through 7th grade participants (that's NINE hours of instruction for each player). Our K-1-2 clinic supplied over THIRTY hours of instruction!  We believe that Garden City Basketball is second to none in the quality and amount of training we fairly allocate to our participants.

We have established special training for “Speed, Agility, and Quickness” led by experts at the Professional Athletic Performance Center .  The training at this facility is used by the Garden City High School Athletic Department, other local public schools, the Islanders, and local colleges.  A special conditioning program built for Garden City Basketball is focused on children 8 years old and higher.  Experts from the Professional Athletic Performance Center provide instruction at their state-of-the-art facility located in Garden City and at St. Paul ’s.  In addition, we are also pleased to be able to provide coaches clinics focused on injury prevention from this top flight organization.

We are the FIRST and ONLY local basketball program that:

ü       is a member of the AAU, the Jr.NBA, and the Jr.WNBA

ü        provides the capability to register online

ü        has invested in a website that sets us apart from all other basketball programs

ü        hosts Jr.NBA/Jr WNBA Skills Challenge, NBA FIT, and iHoops events

ü        has had numerous coaches that have received regional recognition of excellence by the Jr.NBA/Jr.WNBA

ü       entered the Jr.NBA/Jr.WNBA S.T.A.R. (Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Attitude, and Respect) essay contest.  A program of NBA Cares.
