General Announcement

2009 - 2010 Winter Season Schedule
|
The gcaa has inappropriately "announced" their winter schedule as 8am to 4pm. The gcaa does NOT have a village permit for this timeframe. The village of Garden City allocates time/space based upon enrollment normally in the middle of November. Where Garden City Basketball and the gcaa have alternated mornings and afternoons this does NOT guarantee that the gcaa will have one block of contiguous time for their program at the StPauls fieldhouse. It is the position of Garden City Basketball that our program will operate in the afternoon next season. The afternoon is NOT an EVENING starting time. We have requested a noon to 1pm start time for our program but again...village permit times will not be established until much later this year. Whatever time we are assigned, our program will continue to have the K-1-2 clinic first, then our girls program, and end with our boys program.

THANK YOU
|
|
Volunteers, Players, Sponsors, and so many others...
|
Thank you for all of the compliments of how well our program is run and managed. Your kind words, cards, and emails of support and encouragement are truly uplifting. We would like to thank the children that participated in our program for making this fun for the adults too. A big thank you to our 3rd – 6th grade boys/girls head and assistant coaches, the dozens of volunteers at the K-1-2 Clinic, our Island Garden AAU Instructors, our Island Garden Game Officials, Dennis Nuss, the Professional Athletic Performance Center, the GC Mens Basketball team, Coach Steimer, Coach Bruns, the JrNBA/JrWNBA, NBA Cares, the Village of Garden City Recreation Department, the GCUF School District, our generous sponsors, and the team of parents bringing Dunkin Donuts boxes of Joe in the morning. A special thanks to my wife Donna, “the administrator” who really is the one that makes it all happen.

Welcome to Garden City
Basketball !
We
believe that Garden City Basketball
has the vision, dedication, and sets the standard for youth
basketball in the village of Garden City.
Make sure you choose the
right program…Garden City
Basketball…
The
birth of Garden City Basketball
has created an organization solely focused on basketball.
We have raised the bar and have injected activity, effort,
and excitement for the sport of youth basketball in the village.
Garden
City Basketball has one of the largest programs in the
village. However, our
goal is NOT to be the largest.
Our goal is simply to have a great program that is our
version of fun for children.
The
focus of Garden City Basketball
is our intramural program.
Our greater mission is to provide a wonderful experience for
all of our participants so that a love of the life long game of
basketball will be nurtured and grow.
The
Garden City Basketball intramural
program is held in the St. Paul's Field House.
We offer:
ü
Clinics for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd
grade Boys & Girls
ü
Boys intramurals for the 3rd through the 6th
grade
ü
Girls intramurals for the 3rd through the 7th
grade
ü
Boys intramural “Friday Night Lights” for the 7th
through the 10th grade
ü
Boys & Girls 3rd Grade and higher weeknight
clinics
ü
and a variety of special events
Our intramural program runs from the middle of November and
through the middle of March. “Friday
Night Lights - Streetball” is our Boys 7th/8th/9th/10th
Grade program that is held at Stewart School on Friday Nights.
All of our other programs have their games on Saturday.
Skill development is important and Garden
City Basketball has some of the best clinics that you can
find. Our Saturday
clinic for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd
Grader’s is highly regarded by professionals and we are proud to
announce is a model for other programs around the country.
For the 3rd grade and higher, we provide grade based
weeknight clinics that are run by our dedicated volunteer coaches
and are supplemented with paid expert instructors. Last season, we held at least 6 clinics for each of our 3rd
grade through 7th grade participants (that's NINE
hours of instruction for each player). Our K-1-2 clinic
supplied over THIRTY hours of instruction!
We believe that Garden City
Basketball is second to none in the quality and amount of
training we fairly allocate to our participants.
We
have established special
training for “Speed, Agility, and Quickness” led by experts
at the Professional Athletic Performance
Center. The
training at this facility is used by the Garden City High School
Athletic Department, other local public schools, the Islanders, and
local colleges. A
special conditioning program built for Garden
City Basketball is focused on children 8 years old and
higher. Experts from
the Professional Athletic Performance Center provide instruction at
their state-of-the-art facility located in Garden City and at St.
Paul’s. In addition,
we are also pleased to be able to provide coaches clinics focused on
injury prevention from
this top flight organization.
Our travel program goal
is to provide a venue where a small percentage of participants may
play at a higher level. Each
season, we will sponsor a number of travel teams.
In order to consider having a travel team for a given
grade/gender; our participants must have requested it,
quality/dedicated coaching must be available, and a
functional/viable travel team can be created that will have a
positive experience. Our
travel teams play in the Island Garden Super League during the
winter. If a travel team chooses to do so, there is a spring league
in the Island Garden and summer leagues in Rockville Centre and
Valley Stream that we recommend.
Garden
City Basketball is endorsed by, recommend by, and has
partnered with the Island Garden.
The Island Garden is our nationally respected Amateur
Athletic Union regional entity. We strongly believe in reaching out and building
relationships with other organizations.
We are the FIRST local basketball
program that:
ü
is a member of the AAU, the
Jr.NBA, and the Jr.WNBA
ü
provides the capability to register online
ü
has invested in a website that sets us apart from all
other basketball programs
ü
has hosted a Jr.NBA/Jr WNBA Skills
Challenge
ü
has five coaches that have received regional
recognition of excellence by the Jr.NBA/Jr.WNBA
ü
entered the Jr.NBA/Jr.WNBA S.T.A.R.
(Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Attitude, and Respect) essay contest. A program of NBA Cares.
ü
has partnered with TWIGS and Adelphi
University to launch “Hoops That Help” charity basketball
for the Child Life program at Winthrop
University Hospital
ü
provides individual team websites
ü
is using sponsors to help keep our costs down
We
provide the opportunity for our coaches to attend Mercury
Sports “Hoop School”.
This is the premiere basketball coaches clinic on Long
Island. Instruction is
provided by Division I college coaches and active professional
players.
We
welcome open discussions with our participants. As we did last season, we will hold at least two open
forums and we will be there for the residents of the village.
