George LaMay
is an Arborist certified by the International
Society of Arborists, Inc, and a member of the New
York State Arborists Chapter.
He and his wife of 39 years,
Cyndy, founded LaMay's Tree Service in Greenlawn,
N.Y. in 1972 and have been in business for 39 years.
Their sons Buddy and Jason also work in this
successful family business.
George served on the board of
the Long Island Arboricultural Association for 6
years before becoming its president in 2002. One of
his major responsibilities in that capacity was
organizing an Annual Arbor Day Event. This annual
event involves dozens of local Long Island companies
donating a day of tree work for non-profit cultural
institutions. Some of the locations where the work
was donated are Caumsett State Historic Park, SUNY
Farmingdale College, and the Vanderbilt Museum.
George
is on the board of directors for Cornell University,
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk
County. He is also a member of the Program Advisory
Committee for the Agriculture Program at Cornell
Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County.
George is an active member of the Green Guerillas,
and he advocates the use of organic materials. As
well as being environmentally friendly, he feels
organic materials will stimulate the soil, improving
tree’s and shrubs' ability to combat diseases and
pests.
