REAL, SIGNIFICANT SAVINGS FOR ISLAND PARK
HOMEOWNERS ON THEIR FLOOD INSURANCE PREMIUMS......
Mayor Michael McGinty and the Board of
Trustees would like to announce:
The Village met with
representatives of the New York State Department of
Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and we have successfully
passed the Community Assistance Visit (CAV) making us
eligible to participate in the Community Rating System
(CRS). The Community Rating System is a national program
developed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Participation is awarded to communities that are doing more
than just meeting the minimum National Flood Insurance
Program (NFIP) requirements to help their citizens prevent
or reduce flood losses. Incentives are provided to
communities to initiate new flood protection activities. The
NYSDEC has stated that the Village should be able to attain
an initial rating of 9 which would equate to an estimated 5%
savings on an average NFIP flood insurance premium in the
Village. The Mayor and the Board will continue to improve
the Village’s flood plain policies going forward to
achieve a rating of 8 or 7 that will equate to an estimated
cost savings for residents of 9% to 13% on an average NFIP
premium.
Our average homeowner in the flood zone, upon
inception of the Village CRS
Program, will save over $93.00 on their flood
insurance policy with even more savings to come. For more
information, please contact Village Hall at 516-431-0600.
