Residential Concerns from Floral Park to
Hicksville- Residents
are concerned about increased freight traffic compromising
the already overburdened infrastructure which was not
built to accommodate this type and volume of traffic
through our communities. Additional freight traffic will
magnify levels of noise, vibrations, water and air
pollution. Derailments and track fires will occur with
greater frequency with added traffic volume.
It
is anticipated that the NY & Atlantic Railway will
increase freight traffic bringing additional hazardous
waste, radioactive materials, toxic waste, garbage and
30,000 gallon tank cars of liquid propane gas perilously
close to our homes, schools, schoolyards, playgrounds and
businesses. The concerns of residents in these communities
are well -founded.
