Senator
Johnson recently spoke on the floor of the NYS Senate
about his bill (S7037), which will require a resolution be
passed prior to the MTA's approval for improvements to the
LIRR’s Mainline Corridor Third Track Expansion Project.
The purpose of the bill is to provide the localities which
would be affected by the implementation of a third track
to have the opportunity to approve or disapprove such
action.
The bill would preclude the MTA from approving any changes
to the mainline railroad track, for the purpose of
building a third track, until the following communities
adopt a resolution approving such project: Bellerose
Village, Floral Park, Garden City, New Hyde Park, Mineola,
Westbury, Town of Hempstead, Town of North Hempstead and
the Town of Oyster Bay.
Unfortunately, every member of the Senate Majority failed
to vote for this measure to come to the floor, therefore
it continues to remain in committee. This is just a minor
setback in the fight to stop this devastating intrusion to
our village and neighboring communities.
Please contact our elected officials (use the link:
letters to politicians) to voice your opposition to the
LIRR's Third Track Expansion Project. It’s crucial that
we let our representatives know that we are united in our
opposition to stop this devasting and damaging project!
