Assemblyman Thomas McKevitt sent out flyers explaining that radioactive and hazardous waste is being shipped on the main line of the LIRR close to our homes, schools and parks. Since mid January of this year, legislation is pending in the NYS Senate and Assembly mandating that freight train companies carrying hazardous waste and radioactive materials alert local villages and first responders to these shipments. In this way our police, fire and schools will be better prepared to deal with derailments and accidents.
