Antique
Restoration
Any
piece of old furniture was made well enough for us to repair and
rejuvenate, no matter what it’s current condition.
We begin by stripping off the old fabrics, filling, and
springs, in order to work our magic.
Loose joints in the frame are opened and glued, then
clamped. Broken
dowels are replaced and breaks or cracks in the wood are
repaired.
The seat gets rebuilt, starting with new webbing.
Springs are installed, and tied meticulously with double
twines in each direction and cross twines for security and
strength.
Burlap, wooden slats contoured to the shape of the frame,
and fox-edge finish off the platform’s preparation.
The webbing is attached to the back and arms for support
of the stuffing, which is put into place as the new fabric is
carefully base-tacked, then stapled into place.
Double welt, gimp, or decorative nails expertly finish
the job after touch-up of the wood, if necessary.
